All weapons came out for our first rehearsal of the season. Weapons cleaned and prepped, and safety procedures revisited. Crew did very well on the first rehearsal but nailed it on the second one. We are now ready for NHRF.

May 13th
Crew members gathers for setting up our encampment for the 7th annual New Hampshire Renaissance faire. But this year we hosted the first Pirate invasion weekend in celebration of new Pirate's 4 movie.

May 14th
Opening day was grand. Almost 100 pirates on site. The crew of the Dark Rose Pirates from Maine and Captain Merit's Crew joined the festivities. Plenty of Black Powder weapons. All that fired other than my crew got to have safety lessons and enjoyed their own weapons. This year on opening day and on second day we had the Bawdy Buccaneers joins us for song and merriment. In the evening we had our traditional Celie Stone soup and invited our guests from the Dark Rose to break bread. We then went to our encampment and share a grand bottle of Pyrate Rum and planed our next adventure with them.

May 15th
On Sunday the sea gods were quite angry. When Davey Jones showed up we then understood the wrath of the sea gods, for they are are always good to our crew. Then Captain jack showed up the message from the sea gods was clear.

May 21st and 22nd
This year we brought our boss King William III with us. He was visiting the Queen while we all rested from our journeys. Of course there was an unruly sort trying to romance the Queen out of her Kingdom. But William came her rescue. Then we helped put the bloke away. Bet you he will think twice about trying that again....

June 10th and 11th
The crew was invited to play at the Pirate Rendezvous in Damariscotta Maine. We started out camping at Lake Pemaquid Campground on Friday night, then heading over to the town church for the Pirate Dinner. Renewing old friendships with the Dark Rose pirates and adding news ones with some of both our crews new members. Saturday was the best. We started out with the raiding of the church pancake breakfast then over to Battery Point too do our demo. Then Tazzy and Rachelle boarded the Must Roos and Daithi Dubh our ship Chaplin boarded the Sarah Mead and turned into full blown pirates shooting at us from the ships. We returned fire with a battery of four cannons and 20 small arms. But once we realized treasure was involved we headed up town to sword fight with our fellow pirates. Once agreeing we would share the treasure they proceeded down Main street to rob the bank. The rest of the day was full of contests and a final treasure hunt with the kids to find the lost treasure. After the excitement had passed we proceeded to join the crew of the Dark Rose for dinner at Schooner Landing. This years Pirate reactor's award went to Dotty. She had a small swivel gun mounted on her cart and it was decked out with roses and pirate stuff. It was AWESOME!!! After all was done we headed for a night of relaxation at the cabins.
Some of the younger crew were not use to all the excitement and sacked out early. Myself, First mate- greylocke, Boatswain - Rikkard Von Damage, Powder Monkey - Blackdog Mary Steel and Ships Surgeon - Phelan received a visit from some of the crew of the Dark Rose and proceeded to party till Midnight. A grand time was had by all.

June 25th and 26th
Something a little different for our crew on this weekend. We were asked to do a non firing demo at Winslow Shire Renaissance Faire in Norton Mass. This place is a beautiful animal sanctuary. We brought out the sword fighting for this one and still did the talk on the firearms. At one of the demos we even brought out the ships tools that could be used as weapons. Was a good experience for the crew. Gave us a little different perspective. A learning experience for sure.

Our next adventure is teaching and demonstrating black powder to the Boy Scouts.

October 2010 - December 2010

October 2010 -
Tazzy, Sam, Tigerheart, Greylocke and myself went to King Richards on October 9th. Tazzy and Sam were judging the Tattoo Contest. Tazzy desided to suprise her captain and firstmate with having us called up on stage to celebrate our 17th wedding aniversary. It was a suprise. We got a chance to help judge the contest. Great time was had.
The next weekend Greylocke and myself were asked to show the Germans at the Conn Ren faire how to properly load a cannon. They were excelent students. Looking forward to working with them again. Later in the day we got to meet up with some more of our crew. Went over to Finn and Feather to see our ships cooks and had one of their awsome portabella sandwiches.
Sam took us over to the hitting and stabbing euphorium and treated us to some ax throwing. We got to work with Captain Kidd and the Freemen of the Sea and the Bawdy Buccaneers.

Friday - Got to the site arround 12:30 for set up then we all went to pick up hotel rooms to eat and change. Got back to site to plunder(as all good pirates should) around 6:30. Boy it is really funny how the folks comming to the Festival try not to look at the pirates. Got to harasse three army fellows on leave from Iraque. They we really good sports.

Saturday - Got to site at 8:00. Finished putting up props and had our briefing. Full day.
Around 9:30 I gather the Freemen of the Sea to join our crew to remember all who had fallen on 9-11. It was very emotional. Shortly after we started with a Britsh Officer escortng Truley to the main stage in shackles and all of us singing Hoist the colors then freeing her. Captain Jack Sparrow came by to entertain the kids. Captain Kidd and Flynte had an encounter with a bit of sword fighting and historical banter. Well he is on his way back to England for the trial. His crew was awsome. Crow decided to take on Flynte but Flynte being the stuborn captain she is stood her ground and was toe to toe right in his face. But my crew also stepped in and stood their ground. It was awsome.
We did two Demos and they were ok. Later that evening right after the last demo we got a surprise visit from the ship The General. They were shooting a cannon at us and a few small arms. But we suprised them when the Freemen of the Sea join us with their cannons and we pullled out all of our firearms and cannon. They did not expect so much firepower from the shore. So they turned tail and sailed on. The Freemen fo the Sea are a great crew to work with.

Sunday - Weather looked like it was going to rain but once again the great sea god smiled on our crews. There was a suprise vist from Captain Davy Jones later in the day. The best thing is when a pirate goes up to the little ones and offfers them a gold coin. The look on their faces are priceless. Much the same as Saturday except our demos were two of the best. I am really proud of the crew. Break down went pretty smooth.

Working with the Freemen of the Sea was a wonderful experiance. We learned more stuff about the cannons and other things. We are after all the Newbies on the block and any coaching we recieve from an experianced crew is always good. So thank you Captain Kidd and the Freemen of the Sea for letting us work with you. I hope we can work together again.

A special thanks to Rachelle for letting us play. She is a great organizer and a friend. My crew had a blast. (get it blast - cannons and flintlocks) Lets do it again.

July 2010

July 3rd - Crew Party
Well on Saturday July 3rd we had our annual crew party at the captains house. We got a suprise this year and Captain Tom Cruddbeard from the Pirates of the Dark Rose came to join us. When we did the cannon he the did us the honors of calling the cannon commands because our Master Gunner could not join us.
Plenty of food to go around. Some crew came that we have not seen for a while because of the distance they travel. Phe is our newest and finile crew member. She recieved her ships papers at the party and is now our Pilot's mate. A good time was had by all. A few camped out at the house. Our Quartermaster Lord Charles and Quarter Gunners Mate Lady Lunaria renewed their wedding vows at the hand of our ships chaplin Daithi Dubh.
Our next adventure - Norwalk Oyster Festival

June 2010

June 11th, 12th and 13th: Pirate Rendevous, Damariscotta Maine
As you all know over the weekend we had the pleasure of working with the pirates of the dark rose and the ancient ones at the Pirate rendezvous.

On Friday night most of the demo crew had a pirate dinner at the church that consisted of chicken legs and homemade corn beef. We spent most of the time getting reaquainted with Captain Tom, Bloodthirsty and many more of the Pirates of the Dark Rose. Our crew was greeted by them with open arms and open hearts. Being a fellow cannoneer we gave Captain Tom the blessing of St. Barbara in a pendent a gift from our crew.

On Saturday was the fun. We did the bulk of the demo explaining the history of some of the firearms used on board ship. The crowd was pretty interested. Some of the crew then left Battery Point to join the defenders on the other side of the bridge. When the Pirate ships came in the fiing commenced. Firstmate, Captain and Master gunner got off four shoots in arround a ten minute span with our cannon. We were keeping up with Captain Toms big guns. He had three. Let me tell you ever though we were the smallest we were just as impressive. Our smaller arms were pretty impressive also. Quartermaster got of 21 rounds in a little under 15 min of firing. Quite impressive I must say. Everyone else was averaging six to ten shoots. I must say I was quite proud of their preformance. After the live firing finished the Pirate crew invaded the shore. Then the sword fighting began. Of course the defenders lost. The Pirates then went on to convince the town folk to help them find their treasure. Clues were passed out to the wee ones to help them find the treasure.

They also had a costume contest and a crew muster for the kids. A wonderful group of teens known as the Sea Scouts did sea chanities. They were excelent. Your Captain was quite speachless (yes folks it is true) when the town and their ships Scribe awarded our crew the cane with the silver skull - the reenactors of the year award. I was quite proud of the crew and had to hold back tears of joy. But we do have the best crew arround and you guys keep proving that.

At the final part of the day all the long arms proceeded to board the two ships to do a salute to a fallen sailor that lost his life not to far off shore. Some of us hung arround for a while back at Battery Point to chill. Then we went over to Schooner Landing to have dinner with the crew of the Mus Roos. We shared stories and made plans for next year.

In the evening those of the crew that camped sat arround talking both evenings and just being the family we are.
I am proud to have the best crew. We could not have accomplished any of this with out their hard work and dedication. Weather it comes to Guild Hall, NHRF stuff and now our new adventures, I know they will always be there to stand behind their captain and their fellow crew mates. So pour yourself a big glass of rum, you all deserve it

I want to thank Greg (their ships Scribe) , Captain Tom CrudBeard, Bloodthirsty Barbarba and The Pirates of the Dark rose for their wonderful hospitality. They made us feel at home. We are looking forward to more adventures with them.

May 2010

May 1st 2010:
Crew got together for our second rehersal for the year. Set up Guild Hall, The medical tent and the Black Powder Tent. All went pretty smooth. All the big things got set up and everything ready for next day. All went back to the Captains house to crash for the night. Looked like tent city in the yard.

May15th 2010: Opening day NHRF
The day was a bright sunny and warm one. Crew arrived at 8:00am to finish the setup and drag out all the props. We decided to sell Pirate Pickles this year. Arround 10:15 we all set out for the opening gate to do the opening volly shot. Tazzy, Lord Charles and Firstmate Greylocke stayed behind to get the cannon ready for my que.We got involved with the plot once again this year. Once we were in place at the gate the Queen welcomed the crowd. I signeled the cannon waited for the Jestor to yell pirates and the we did our opening volly throught the gate. Funny thing the crowd must have jumped ten feet in the air when we shot. We thought one teenager was going to have an accident. Jestor quits and says he don't like pirates. After lines are spoken I then inform the Queen that we are having a memorial for the old town crier and ship mate imp. We then proceeded to the back field for the service. The service was very emotional for alot who knew imp. Everyone spoke a few words. We then proceeded to place roses at the base of the portrait of imp. I then did a last raising of the tankard and gave the order to fire the longs arms in honor. We then proceeced to do our regular demo. Went pretty well but still needs work at this point. One more demo done before end of the day. During jestor tryouts Phelan and myself proceeded to the stage and when Rufus tried to do a cartwheel knocked himself out I ran to his side and cradled his head in my bosum. Needless to say Rufus now loves as he puts it Pyrateteers. Got lots of laughs from the crowd.
Pickles did well this day. Made the money bcack to pay for them anyway.

May 16th 2010: Second Day NHRF
Day went well same as the first except we did not do the memorial cermoney. We have added a new act to out back field. Jake the Archer. He holds three world class records and is NH state champion.

May 22nd and 23rd: Second Weekend NHRF
This weekend went well. The scenes with the cast went smoother. Our demo finily evolved into a fun but professional preformance. The last one we did was our best. By George I think we got it. The crew showed real personality and great interaction. Congratulations everyone. You did good. I decided to ask for donations at the last demo. We have been putting out of our pockets for the last few years. The responce we got was awesome. The crowd thought we were informative and professional. We made enough from the pickles to pay for the generator that died, the pickles and the cooler that was purchased for the pickles(showed up 2 days after faire)
Guild Hall was a success and we did a Wench walk that was fun and safe.
All in all it was tiring but fullfilling.

Our next adventure is June 12th at the Pirate Rendezvous at Damariscotta Maine where we will be working with the Pirates pf the Dark Rose.

The Firing Line NHRF 2010

January thru Febuary 2010

Ships Log: January 1st 2010 thru Febuary 6th 2010
January 1st: Lets start with a happy new year to everyone. On New Years Eve some of the crew and friends gathered at our Ships Sailmasters Mates - Anni to celebrate the coming of the New year. Very relaxing evening.
January 30th: Most of the crew gathered at Birka Market place, put on by the SCA in the Manchester Radission Hotel. There was shopping till you be a dropping and displays of both heavy sword fighting and fencing. Here we also hooked up with some Ren friends along with crew mates. The crew got to spend some time with my twin sister Rena Maria. She went in my place for I had business with the King in England.
February 6th: Some crew and friends gathered at Anni's for the annual Rennie winter get together. Plenty of food and we all got to watch the movie Yellowbeard. This helped with the Faire blues we all get over the winter.

Next adventure for our crew is New Hampshire Renaissance Faire in May. Hope to see you all there.

Last Entry for 2009

Ships Log - October thru December 2009
Well this has been a busy year for our crew. Myself, Greylocke, Tazzy the Pansy Pirate, Sam Handwich, Anni Geturguns McDraggon, Celfig Mclden and Daithi Dubh. We spent 4 evenings listening, learning and reviewing Black Powder safety. We also learned a bit about Mass firearm laws. We all graduated with a patch and a certificate.

Our three instructor's, Bob, Jim and Doc made the class fun and highly informative. As we found out traditional Black Powder firearms are becoming a dieing art. So we have desided to keep this tradition up as long as we can by bringng it to our faires and introducing everyone to the beauity and history of these fine firearms.

Once again than you Bob, Jim and Doc for making us more safe firearm owners.
Our next adventure coming up is Connecticut Renassaince Faire.

September 5th, 2009

Ships Log: Saturday September 5th

This adventure takes the whole crew to opening day at King Richards located in Carver Massachusetts. Our Master Gunner Tazzy the Pansy Pirate was able to get comp tickets for a crew day at the fair.

We all met at 9:45 in the parking lot. All was met with handshakes and hugs. After getting in our best pirate garb we all gathered at the back of the line plotting our ships raid. We all gathered after the bulk of the crowd and proceeded into the gates. We stopped by and introduced our selves to good King Richard. We were a sight to behold. He was quite impressed at the size of the crew and asked us if we were up to no good mistaken us for pirates. We explained we were privateers and he then ask us if we had letter of marque.

We then did a little soul catching and proceeded to seperate. Not to hard to find our crew though our pins clearly marked us. At Lunch a few crew gathered the food court to grab some grub and a tankard of refreshment. Some of us went and saw the fire dancer and then stayed to see the Ariel Angels preform. Of course the wenches on board ship myself included wanted to shanghi the male angel. Figured he would be a good addition to the rat lines. The "Tale of the Tiger" was there displaying the largest "Liger" in the world. Their show is always ourstanding.

At 3:00 in the afernoon we all met at the Kings Stage. The preformers were the Tortuga Twins. Then we all stayed to see the Kings show "Bit Me" It was pretty funny. The music was great. We all hung arround for a bit afterward for some more souls catching and make some neat memories. At this point some of the crew began heading home. Some of us stayed out in the parking lot with our ships cook Sven and his wife Brandy Whine. Our Navigator desided to pratice his whip and caught the Firstmate Greylocke in the corner of the eye. No damage done.

The day just flew buy. During the day all the flintlocks and cannon came out and we got more crew up to speed on the safety procedures. A few that do not have weapons got to fire and loved it. In true crew tradition we all got in full garb and taped the demo with the normal amount of shooters. We then proceed to the fount of the house and did an all weapons ( total of 15) firing line in memory of our comrade.

The service started with our ships Chaplin saying a few words. It was then followed by a moment of silence. I then called out the command for each shooter to take a step forward in a rolling thunder with all but the blunderbusses. Then in true crew style all three blunderbusses stepped forward for the final salute together. We set off every car alarm in the neighborhood. imp would have loved it. We then had the honor of Captain Maavus T. Always a pleasure to chat and hang with him.
The crew had a chance to relax do some shopping and see other acts, which is hard to do when you are doing blackpowder demos. We the proceeded to welcome Black Dog Mary Steel and Perwinkle the Pirate to our crew by giving the ships docs and raising a tankard of mead provided by Rickkard Von Damage in welcome.
We then proceed to head to the Guild Tent and say Ahoy to our fellow Guild members Lady Reddy and Captain Lord Ruff of the GraveDancer. Off we proceeded to our 2:30 demo. There were 15 flintlockes and muskets on the line and 2 cannons. I took charge of the small arms and Captain Thighbitterwas in carge of the cannons. All went well. The crowd really like it when the Thunder Wenches fired off the Blunderbusses. Out of 15 weapons we had 3 miss fires. Not a bad percentage.
The rest of the day was walking around and chatting with other pirates and privateers.
Sunday was a rainy windy day and only a few of our firing line made it. They braved the winds and rain by doing a cut down version of the demo. Unfortunatelly There was only 5 weapons and 3 missfired because of the weather.
Blackpowder and water not a good combo.
Next adventure: Winslow Farms Ren Faire.

June 2009

Ships Log - Friday and Saturday June 5th and 6th
Phelan, Rickarrd Von Damage, Greylocke and myself set up our encampment at Silverkingdom Ren Faire on Friday night. Good food and great company. Later in the evening we were joined by Jen at the firpit.
Saturday was faire. Lots of vendors and sword fighting. The Larpers had a tornament. Tazzy, Sammy, Daithi Dubh, Lord Charles, Lady Lunara Dreamweaver, Brandy Whyne, Sven Dere and Caramia Evileena came and hung arround and stopped by the encampment for a tankard of rum. Later in the day we brought a new crew member on board as our Ships Scribe, Mijomuffins.
Later in the day Captain Maavus T. Meritt stopped buy to show off his new German Dragoon. He will be getting together with Flynte sometime soon for some black powder mayham. Some of Maavus crew also stopped by the encampment.
Later that afternoon Lady Lunara, Sammy and my self headed off to get some grub for the after hours crew party.
Party was fun. Good food, good company thats all a body can ask. As the evening progressed many of the Ren Folks stopped by and hung around our firepit for good conversation. It was good to see old friends and make some new ones.
Next adventure: The New England Pirate Faire.

May 2009 - continued

Ships Log: Friday May 15th, Saturday May 16th and Sunday May17th.
Friday: Crew arrived at NHRF site to set up. 12 x 12 Panther and 2 ezy ups were set up. Most of the things needed to set up the hostel were put in place. Black Powder tent also in place. Exhausting day for all.
Saturday: First day of faire. All weapons arrived and were placed in BP tent. The rest of set up finished and the crew got ready for opening. Cannon was being readyed for opening shot while the rest of use loaded small arms and headed to the frount gate. We did a ships raid with will Black Powder Volley. Turned a lot of heads. Crew then goes over to meet the queen and gets heckled by the sherriff. Of course crew heckles back. We tell the queen about our mission and head back to our encampment to ready for our demo.
First demo went well. Crew enjoyed firing their weapons and getting into their parts. Hostal tent full of food and plenty of space to sit and relax. Tazzy made her rum balls and I think they were quite popular. Alot of staggering after everyone ate those.
At second demo we must have had 3/4 of the paytons there. Crew ran with it and did an awesome job. As always.
After demo we headed over to the main field and tell the queen we have found the Highway Man Black Jock, Black Jock Strop. He turned out to be the sherriff. Our brutt squad had a great time ruffing up the sherriff. He did not expect us to be so enthusiastic.
Sunday: Much the same as Saturday except our last demo went the best of all. Hector decided to tell pirate jokes to the captain and the Sam joined in. The crowd really responded great. I think we will do that all the time. Adds alot to personality of the crew.
The capture of the sherriff was even funnier on this day. Got change completly to involved one of his minions trying to frame him. But we still shackled him and brought him cross the grounds to be trialed in England.
Break down went quick. We all hung arround after for the music of the Brigands, the Bawdy Buckneers and the Crimson Pirates renewing old freindships and making some new ones.
On saturday we were joined by another crew member Wilfric Blacktongue. Busy day. Lectures on Battle tactics, Field Artillery, Scars and wounds and Cannon 101. Picked up several more saftey issues on blackpowder.Got an oppertunity to speak with Captain Kidd of the Freeman. We laughted about the history involved with both our ships. Greylocke and myself spent alot of time with Captain Tom Crudbeard and Bloodthirsty Barbarba from the Dark Rose exchanging stories and information. Much was learned. In the evening we all changed into our finery and went to the Pirate Ball. We all danced once again to the music of the Brigands and the Bawdy Buckneers. The show got quite bawdy and funny tward the end. The rum was a flowin in typical pirate fashion.
Crew left for home Sunday none the worst for ware. We are at home base at the New Hampshire Renassiance Faire. This year we handed out our first Kings pardon to our Ships Punster imp. Caused a wee bit of excitment because he jumped ship from a pirate ship.
